David Derr Artwork Featured at NJ Symphony
For several years the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has sponsored a “violin painting” opportunity. They reach out to local artists and invite them to paint/decorate a violin in any way they wish. The entries are very creative and imaginative, to say the least, and they are raffled off as a fund-raiser for the NJSO
This year the organizers varied the routine by asking artists to use as their themes something from the NJSO’s 08-09 concert schedule. And they invited Masterwork’s own David Derr to participate. He chose as his theme Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, which was presented at an NJSO concert earlier this year. It’s completely fitting. Pictures is a musical interpretation of an actual Russian art exhibit held in the 1870s, and David’s design is a visual interpretation of that musical interpretation featuring, among other things, “The Great Gate of Kiev”.
David’s violin is pictured in the hands of Rita Kessler, who organizes the entire affair for the NJSO.
More pictures of all the violins can be seen at the NJSO’s website.
Way to go, David!!!

Call for Help — Marketing Committee
The Marketing Committee is responsible for promoting all events of The Masterwork Chorus. This is a very thoughtful and time consuming since there are many media that need to be contacted.
First we have to determine the message that we want to get out for each activity. That message needs to be processed into the right format for particular media such as a press release for print publications and newspapers, shorter versions for calendar releases for print and online websites, postcard, radio, PSAs, special groups and so on.
We are also always looking for new media contacts to add to our lists. I am reaching out to the chorus for some volunteers to do small jobs, which would help immensely. You need not commit to meetings if you cannot. A particular job could be done at home.
If you think you have a bit of time and/or a special expertise for marketing and public relations, please speak to Katherine B at rehearsal.

German Diction for To The Stars Program
Thanks much to Andrew and Kit, here is an excellent way to learn the German pronunciation for all the pieces in our upcoming concert (see the revised program order, if you haven’t seen it already). Attached below you will find recordings of each of the German pieces in the program, recorded personally by our own Maestro Dr. Megill. These recordings are in a fairly low resolution MP3 format, suitable for playing your iPod, MP3 player, or just about any computer. Add these to your daily practice regimen!

Brahms Zigeunerlieder 5
Brahms Zigeunerlieder 7
